The 7 Dog Breeds that Bark the Most

While barking behavior can vary greatly between individual dogs based on personality and training differences, some breeds definitely tend to be more vocal than others. These are the top 7 most vocal dog breeds.

1. Beagle

My dad came home with a beagle puppy my senior year of high school, and I did not have an uninterrupted night of sleep again until I left for college. I’m not kidding. That beagle made me think I was not a dog person. It wasn’t until 8 years later that I had recovered from the PTSD of the constant howling and discovered I actually did like dogs. Now I have a Shiba Inu (a breed known for rarely ever barking), and I am very happy.

2. Miniature Schnauzer

Mini Schnauzers have over-sized voices to match their over-sized beards.

3. Chihuahua

Just as some guys overcompensate for being small by getting big trucks, Chihuahua’s overcompensate for being small by having big voices.

4. Bichon Frise

These walking cotton balls pack lots of spunk in their tiny trunks.

5. Dachshund

Dachshunds (also known as weiner dogs, sausages, or evolution’s laughter) are ironic little creatures who have ridiculously impractical bodies yet love hiking. They also love to let you know (by barking) whenever they have an emotion of any sort.

6. Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkies are adorable. They do bark a lot, but their barks are very soft so it’s much less annoying than a Beagle or Chihuahua.

7. Pomeranian

Pomeranians are small, sassy, and shrill.
